Established in 1984, the orchard,planted between areas of beautiful native bush, is one of the largest certified organic macadamia nut orchards in Australasia

The macadamia nut is a native of Australia, although now grown in many parts of the world including New Zealand. It is related to the Rewarewa. The macadamia was named after Dr John Macadam, scientist, philosopher and politician

A member of the Proteaceae family, the macadamia is a large evergreen tree that can grow to 20 metres if not pruned. Nuts are produced after about 4 years. They have a green fibrous husk outside the hard brown shell, and then within the shell is the creamy white kernel. There are 2 edible species - the pink flowering Tetraphylla and the white flowering Integrifolia.

Macadamia nuts are a delicious high energy food than can reduce cholesterol by 7% over 4 weeks if 6 -20 are eaten daily. The monounsaturated oil lowers the risk of heart disease. They also contain selenium, vitamins E, A1, B1 and B2.
